摘要:
This talk covers two research topics, one related to search and one related to Big Data.
In the first part of the talk, Prof. Li will present their research on search.
While Web search engines have improved their capabilities significantly, many applications are still using traditional solutions that were initially designed and developed more than a decade ago. These solutions answer traditional keyword queries reasonably well, but become weak when dealing with the requirements from emerging markets, including mobile applications and location-based services. For instance, mobile users often need to face the "fat fingers problem," i.e., typing on the small interface is hard and error prone.
In this talk Prof. Li will present their techniques to meet these requirements. They have developed a product at SRCH2 that can enable powerful features such as instant search, fuzzy search, location-based search, real updates, and customizable ranking. He will show several prototypes to demonstrate the capabilities of these techniques.
In the second part of the talk, Prof. Li will present a "Big Data" project called ASTERIX.
In ASTERIX, they are developing new technologies for ingesting, storing, managing, indexing, querying, analyzing, and subscribing to vast quantities of semi-structured information. Recently they released their software package, which is used in several applications to solve their problem.
