  报告人简介:
Xiaomin Ma received B.E. and M.E. degrees in electrical engineering in 1984 and 1989, respectively. He got the Ph.D. degree in Information engineering at the Beijing University of Posts & Telecommunications, China, in 1999. From 2000 to 2002, he was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Duke University, USA. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Engineering at Oral Roberts University in U.S. His research interests include stochastic modeling and analysis of computer and communication systems, physical layer and MAC layer of vehicular ad hoc wireless networks, computational intelligence and its applications to coding, signal processing, and control, and Quality of service (QoS) and call admission control protocols in wireless networks. He is (or was) PI, Co-PI or project leader in several projects sponsored by NSF, NSF EPSCoR, Motorola, Chinese NSF, AFOSR, and ARO, etc. Currently, he is a senior member of the IEEE.

内容提要: Transportation systems are designed to transport people from one place to another as safely and efficiently as possible. Unfortunately, many accidents and fatalities occur on the road every day. Recently, the development of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) has been advancing towards safe and smooth driving without delay. Wireless communication systems are expected to play a pivotal role in the ITS safety-related applications. Vehicular communication systems such as Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) in US and the Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) in Europe have been proposed and extensively studied for the purpose of road safety. There are two types of safety messages: Periodic beacon safety message (BSM) in US or cooperative awareness message (CAM) in Europe, and event-driven safety message (ESM) in US or decentralized environmental message (DENM) in Europe.
In this presentation, the design and analysis of vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) for event-driven safety services are addressed. First, a short overview of IEEE VANET for safety applications and new channel allocation strategies for safety applications is given. Second, a reliable dual-radio based channel assignment scheme is proposed to accommodate different safety services with requirement quality of service (QoS). Third, a new application-level receiver-oriented repetition (AROR) scheme is proposed for one-hop emergency message broadcast in VANETs. The new scheme introduces an application-level concept of region of interest (ROI) and lifetime of message in selecting nodes for rebroadcast and packet repetitions so that both the reliability and transmission delay can be significantly improved. Fourth, new important performance and reliability metrics are introduced and analyzed for a thorough understanding of the one-hop safety message transmission behavior. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the correctness of our proposed schemes and models under realistic network parameter settings.
